MARK YOU CALENDAR -and/or- RELEASE YOUR PRESS!
Those who know her music, know. The uninitiated can’t really be told. One has to hear it. Susan plays pedal steel guitar, taking the instrument places that few others could. She is respected among the world-wide community of creative improvising musicians as a very great artist. Suffice it to be said that this music cannot be heard any other time or place. Susan’s infrequent visits to Austin from Baltimore are very special. She’s performed here only twice in ten years, less frequent even than Jandek! At Salvage Vanguard she will perform solo pieces and ensemble pieces. Special guests TBA (;Speaking of Jandek, the following samples of Susan’s music are timely on account of his recent performance at Salvage Vanguard:
A surreal live multimedia performance by Alexander Hacke (Einstürzende Neubauten), Danielle de Picciotto, and Algis Kizys (Swans, Foetus, etc)Based on a true story Danielle de Picciotto has created a silent movie telling the story of her last night in NYC in 1987.The dramatic and shocking turn of events during that dark evening retold in spoken word by Danielle de Picciotto are accompanied by an industrial/noise soundtrack created live by the musicians Alexander Hacke and Algis Kizys.Duration 45 -60 minutes
3|Sunday, July 28th, Salvage Vanguard Theatre, admission $5-$15 sliding scale, 8pm“The Glasshouse” trailer: http://vimeo.com/33497352password: RyanAlexander Hacke: http://www.hacke.org/Danielle De Picciotto: http://www.danielledepicciotto.com/Algis Kizys: http://www.algiskizys.com/
Jeff (trombone - http://jeffalbert.com/) plays with Hamid Drake in Bindu (and many other ensembles) He will be visiting Austin from New Orleans, with The Log Ladies!
The Log Ladies craft their sound in New Orleans. The music sheds jazz conventions and avoids avant-garde airs, mixing haunting melodies with a romping rhythm section. Shifting textures and a healthy sense of humor deliver a distinctive sound. Chris Alford (guitar), Dave Cappello(drums), and Jesse Morrow (bass) are the The Log Ladies.
We’ll be starting the evening with Carl Smith, Derek Phelps, and some friends in ensemble. These guys are still underrated, but they’d never admit it. Anyway, prepare yourself for a JazzFlex!
